Because I Care ...
... I share.
Well, tonight I posted on Face Book a picture of a slice of homemade bread ... bearing a heart shape formed while it was rising. Now .. if you will remember, my little granddaughter, Rowan, passed away just last month from a heart defect (HLHS) ... and whenever I see a heart in the clouds, or, yes, a loaf of bread, I am reminded of her. When asked if I ever eat store bought bread I replied ... not since I found out that commercial dough conditioners contain a human protein made from hair swept off the floors of barber shops in China. It's got a real eww/blec factor .. but go ahead and read. You might just skip that soft loaf of 'Wonder' bread ... as now you won't 'wonder' what makes it so soft.
(Rowan ... you have left a hole in my heart .. but have more than filled my life with wonderful memories of time spent with you. See you on the other side. Love, Grammy)

Mrs Mac - The Good Lord had another plan for Rowan, which I'm sure you'll find out about "on the other side." We just have to try and fill that "empty hole" - and I KNOW that is not easy.
As for "hearts in the clouds" - why, that Rowan blowing you a kiss :)
Ewww! I checked the ingredients in all the store bought bread products in the house.The whole wheat bread and hamburger buns did not contain this type of dough conditioner, but the Franz bagels I bought at the day old bread store contain L-cysteine! Remember how I said that I think homemaking is becoming a lost art? This is a good example of why we need to keep the art of homemaking alive. If I buy bread from the store, there is no way to really know exactly what is in it, but if I make the bread myself (as I know you do) I know what ingredients I used. When my kids tell me that some food I prepared for them is really good, I sometimes give credit to the "secret ingredient" I added. Years ago, they learned that the secret ingredient is love. That's something you won't find in store bought bread! =)

Sweet Rowan. I'm sorry to hear of your loss. Your love for Rowan will come back whenever you see a heart. What a nice thought to carry with you.

Rowan has touched so many people with her beautiful smile and love. My thoughts, every time you make something or see something where a heart shape appears. It's little Rowan sending a message that she's right there with you and the family. Thank you for sharing your slice of bread with the heart shape.

Rowan's short, but important life has made a huge impact on me too.
She did indeed touch our heart with her open.
I foe certain will not buy "soft" bread anymore. No wonder we are getting more and allergies the longer we live.
I hardly eat anything but Gunnar's spelt bread.
Another scary thought, when we were kids my mom used to buy those little small white donuts. One of the main ingredients in those little white donuts is also found in your bathroom cultured marble sink. It really is important to know your ingredients and whenever possible MAKE YOUR OWN! If you can't pronounce it why eat it?

I love that photo of Rowan - what a precious little girl... And I loved the heart in the bread...and I'm afraid to read the story of the Chinese barber shop hair... really?? I can't bring myself to read about it... I may just have to get out my bread machine...
I haven't bought soft bread in years...this is gross!!!
I miss our sweet Baby Cakes...sigh.

Loved the heart bread!! I made pancakes one time, when a flipped side had Mickey Mouse ears imprinted smack in the middle. Loads of fun for the kids.

Really yuck on the bread, but I do enjoy those little signs.
