Summer Is A Busy

time, PERIOD.

The weather was a bit iffy last week and all of our tomatoes were picked as night time temps produced a few frosty mornings.  Ninety-seven percent of our crop was still green.  They are in boxes stored in the cool basement ... and are ripening up nicely.  From our 12'x4' raised bed we harvested 120 pounds of assorted heirlooms planted from seeds saved from last year's harvest; that's free tomatoes!

Speaking of seeds, please take the time to watch this movie, Genetic Roulette, while it's available for free through September 22.  If you are still on the fence about the dangers of GMO crops, this will help push you over the edge.  If you live in California, be sure to get out and vote in the coming election on Prop 37, making it the law to have food labels state if it's made with GMO's.  You can bet that a very HIGH percentage of grocery store items and processed foods contain them.

You've got a very large harvest of great tomatoes there!!!
I've saved this movie to watch later this week. Thanks for posting it on your blog :-)
You know a high percent of groceries are made from GMO crops. We all need to be aware of this and buy/grow non GMO foods.

Great tomato harvest! Ours was rather disappointing this year. Frost already there! Definitely agree that GMO foods should be labeled.

Dear Mrs. Mac,
Your garden is amiable and admirable. I don't know how you make it, midst in all your everyday chores and being a caretaker, mother and grandmother.
Are you loaded with some special fuel?
Several years ago I read that all reproductive Americans have eaten GMO corn several times in their lives.
Not a reassuring thought.
I guess much of our imported corn, fruit, vegetables have been GMO.
It's so sad, too late to reverse.

Your garden header for your blog is so nice -- I really like that photo.

Glad your harvest has gone well. We're still dealing with an overabundance of tomatoes, but I won't complain -- I'll keep canning. lol

I hope CA does vote for GMO labeling. A recent European study that showed GMO corn caused cancer in rats. I don't think we'll see any similar studies done in the US. I steer clear of GMO products but worry about those who don't care or don't know about the dangers.
