Nine Weeks

... but who's counting?

I am!  That's how many weeks until our newest grandbaby arrives; my arms are aching to hold him .. and I'm sure my daughter is about ready to get her body back in shape.  It's been hard on her having two children so close together.

Can it really be February already?  This is the month I usually start my tomato seeds and get bit by the gardening bug.  In truth .. when I look out the window the garden beds are covered in a thick layer of snow.  The monthly budget has been worked out .. bills paid.  We're getting closer to retirement .. hubby is in count down mode.  Living on a budget is the smartest plan by far.  Last week we had two dates .. from sensibly priced to free.  The free one involved sampling chocolates at an event sponsored at our local library and included a mini history lesson.

We had an impromptu Super Bowl gathering at our home yesterday.  Part of our budget is not having cable TV.  Thank goodness our son-in-law brought over his portable antenna and was able to hook it up to the TV in the man cave.  That meant I didn't have to watch or listen to much of it.

My daughter and I prepared a feast .. which seemed larger than even Thanksgiving dinner for some reason.  There will be no cooking required for the next several days.  She and I enjoyed the peace and quiet since the menfolk were downstairs .. so we sewed a snugly baby blanket.

I'm thankful for having my family nearby, access to quality local food, and the ability to cook without the use of overly processed ingredients.  Now if I had stayed away from a cup of evening coffee, I'd be fast asleep instead of wide awake.  What's up in your neck of the woods?

Food is not, like, my thing but that bread (rolls?) look yummy! In so many ways, you remind me of my Momma; nothing ever made her happier than having all her family home and cooking for us. BTW, I'm not sure who coined the phrase 'man cave' but isn't a wonderful place?! Hooping and hollering for the guys and solitude for the girls; now that's good times! Anxiously awaiting the arrival of the newest little St. Maried as well! Have a great week..............

Cathy, I can't believe your daughter is due in only 9 weeks! That's exciting! By the way, I want you to know that you are definitely rubbing off on me. After you posted, a while back, about GMOs I started researching the topic a bit and ended up ordering the Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds catalog one of your followers mentioned in a comment. What a beautiful catalog, and now I have big plans to plant an entirely GMO free heirloom vegetable garden this year. You usually start planting your tomato seeds in February?!

Snow! That's what's up. I've just cooked come pasta & added it to some leftover chili and a can of cheddar cheese soup in the crock pot for our dinner.

I am postponing grocery shopping until this evening. I'll sandwich it between 5:00 & 6:15 appointments to deliver items someone is purchasing from us via a facebook exchange site.

I am going to work on grocery and "to do" lists for the day & week after I've checked out my favorite blogs. I should have done this last night to have a head start on today, but I didn't.

hello Mrs Mac

Good to hear your news, its cold and VERY windy here in the UK but no snow at the moment. I love your photos, the snowy landscape is beautiful. I cooked a free range chicken from the local farm co-operative yesterday but used a new recipe from the hairy bikers diet book 'masala marinated chicken', it was lovely!. One of my resolutions this year is to expand my usual cooking repertoire and try and use the cookbooks I have received as Christmas pressies.
God bless you and your family

Mrs Mac,

Exciting news, a new Grand Baby coming, soon hubby will be retiring, and gardening is around the corner. I'm so happy for you and your family.

What did you think of the game yesterday?

I've been getting over being sick, and can't wait to get outside and start planting. Waiting for it to warm up here.

Sandy .. hope you have a speedy recovery.

9 weeks, how exciting! Sounds like a nice way to spend the day yesterday.
I read and Mister watched the game.

How time flies. I'm happy for you having your daughter so close to home. Nine weeks will go fast as the spring breaks and king Winter must go to sleep.
I rather enjoyed the Super Bowl match. I must have been hard for the nice old mother though to watch her two coach sons fighting against each other. One had to loose.

It is amazing how quickly time goes by, isn't it? At least when you're not in pain or trouble. Then time just stretches out!

It is far too early to think about gardening here. I forgot to plant garlic last fall and wonder if it is too late now, tho. I think we are going to have to build cold frames if we want to seriously consider gardening.

Hugs to you and your family. I hope the baby arrives safely.

I have to wait a little longer for my new grandbaby Mrs. Mac so I'll be following you and yours. Hope all goes well. Good luck with your retirement preparations. You will enjoy it for sure. We do!
