Purposely Going ....

... 'Old School' ....
(Made in the U.S.A.)

Sick and tired of crummy crackly VoIP phone service with wireless handset, we've gotten our land line back and opted for a wall phone, curly cord and all!  And I'm about to ditch my smart phone for a internet free flip phone.

Sick of the pull being 'tethered' to the www all the time.  Spacebook ...don't get me started, oy!  Oh .. and all of it's spying with advertisements for this or that when I search on google or Pinterest.

My absence in blog land has been mostly due to the vacuum sucking effect of being on Face Book; where there is boundless selfie action and TMI being shared.

There is more to life than snippets of this and that.

OK ..

Rant over!

Has anyone else fallen into this 'rabbit hole'?

In the mean time .. I am enjoying sitting on the front porch rocker sipping coffee each morning with hubby; spending time with the grandboys .. including the newest little feller that is a month old!  Visiting with my folks every few days .. enjoying their presence making up for many years of lost time due to time and distance apart.  The garden flowers .. new church fellowship ... RETIREMENT life tends to be busier than when hubby worked a full time job!

Nathan begins his last year of high school.   Ann is coming up on two years of marriage!  Patrick is off fighting wild fires in the Salmon Mountain range of Southern Idaho .. his third wild-land fire deployment this summer.  We have a very full and rewarding retirement life.

Enjoy each day that unfolds .. count your blessings!

I get it, my friend.
What appropriate choices you're making.
I can't think of anything you'll possibly regret about decisions like these.

I still have my land line. I do have a smart phone, and that's because I am alone now, and on the go more and need maps to get me where I'm going, etc. I'm not on FB, just blogging. I am in my computer more than I should be since losing my dear husband 3 3/4 years ago, and that has been to fill the void by my loss. I may be getting a full-time job, have an interview this Wed. morning.

We all have life changes, and have to figure out what works best for us in any given situation.

Wow, Nathan is in his last year of high school and you have two grandboys. Ann & Peter are doing well, you're near your folks, you're busy and happy. Good for you!

Have a great weekend ~ Love & hugs ~ FlowerLady

I've been a conscientious objector to FB for a very long time but started a job a few months ago where one of my jobs is to maintain our FB page (including finding interesting, relevant articles to link to). I have not been terribly successful so just a week or so ago I set up a personal account to give me something to practice on and get to know it better. I've restricted it to siblings, their kids and just my oldest friends from school. And so far I'm asking myself what the fuss is all about. Mostly it's pretty boring. Although it has opened up a tentative line of communication with one of my nephews who has otherwise become very reclusive in the last few years so I may keep it on for longer than the couple of months I was planning on. I think I found blogging just before most people were finding FB and didn't see much difference between the two at the time so just stuck with the one I liked. In the meantime I've added twitter and instagram and I do enjoy those. But so far, I really do find FB kind of boring so I don't think it'll become too much of a time suck for me.

Oh ... so love this. Don't use a cell phone myself ... oh, I have one (not a smart phone tho) but I don't think it's been turned on in the last 7 or 8 months. Keep facebook to an absolute minimum, block everything I have no interest in and just keep in touch with family who live in other cities. Only my bestest friends in real life are on my facebook list.

Life isn't about the internet. It's about living in reality. Oh, the net is fine for keeping up to date and all, but ... I still read our local newspaper on the PAPER it's printed on.

As for the phone ... I've always kept my 'home' phone. It stays in the house (along with my cell). When I am out in the garden, or having a walk I don't want to listen to the phone. Some people don't get that.

It's so nice to find others with a similar bent! Thanks for sharing.
